The story
This artwork is an intricate, highly detailed, black-and-white botanical illustration created with fine pigment ink line drawing, overlaid on subtle washes of watercolor.
The piece uses fine black line art filled with varied texture patterns, such as stippling, swirls, hatching, scales, grid lines and dots, giving each floral element a distinct visual weight and depth. It is a dense, edge-to-edge tapestry of flora, featuring diverse flower heads, lotus-like blossoms, leafy stems, palm fronds and abstract botanical patterns layered closely together. While it is predominantly monochrome line art, subtle soft washes of pastel pink, purple and pale sage green tint the background sections. The field is completely filled with continuous, bursting floral shapes, creating a tapestry-like, mesmerizing effect.
